【Kato Shrine summary】
Katoh Shrine was founded in the 4th year of Meiji (1871). It was originally built as Nishikiyama Shrine in Kumamoto Castle during the separation of Shinto and Buddhism. The name was changed to Kato Shrine in 1909. The deity of the shrine is Kiyomasa Kato, a warlord of the Warring States period who served as a vassal of Hideyoshi Toyotomi, a fierce general who distinguished himself in many battles and in the Korean invasion.

The central sacred tree stands out and has a strong presence, and the small shrine that sits between the trunks is also sacred.

There is a spectacular view of Kumamoto Castle from the temple grounds, and I had the impression that there were many worshippers here.
