Stepping out of Shibamata Station, you are already inside the world of the movie. In the station plaza, the statue of “Tora-san the Vagabond” setting off on a journey, and his sister “Sakura” warmly seeing him off, welcome visitors. Rumor has it that touching Tora-san’s left foot brings good luck…? First, take a commemorative photo here.

The massive wood carvings depicting tales from the Lotus Sutra at the back of the main hall are, in a word, a masterpiece. The intricate detail is highly praised as the “zenith of Eastern sculptural art.” After admiring the carvings, take a break while gazing at the quiet, celebrated garden. You will completely forget the hustle and bustle of the big city.
