Since it is an Inari shrine, it features many torii gates lining the stone steps; 91 torii gates and about 300 steps overlook the beautiful Ukiba. This spectacular view offers a broad view of the Chikugo Plain in front of you.

If you are confident in your physical strength, you can climb up from the entrance along the roadway. Although the shrine is unmanned, visitors can obtain a red seal at the nearby Sunpit Value Ukiba store upon request.

【Ukiba Inari Shrine scenery】

The beautiful row of torii gates and the straight line of the road below are both wonderful. On a clear day, the view extends as far as Harazuru Onsen, Fukuoka’s largest hot spring resort, and the Amagi area. Many tourists were enjoying taking pictures of the spectacular view with their cell phones and digital cameras. I guess it is for foreign tourists like other Inari shrines. This Inari shrine is rooted in the community and is not very touristy, so the atmosphere was better than other Inari shrines.

When I visited, I looked at the mountain from a distance and saw the red line, which was strange and exciting as I got closer.

Manager’s Comments

It is rare to find an Inari shrine with a thousand torii gates along the slope. Therefore, the scenery is very scenic and attracts people. The Senbon-torii is very popular among foreign tourists, but there are also foreign tourists with bad manners who occupy the stairs and take pictures, and when I warned them for not giving way to an elderly worshiper who was climbing the stairs, they turned the tables on me in Chinese.
