【Watatsumi Shrine (Dragon King Palace) summary】

Watatsumi Shrine is a small shrine located on Cape Ryuoh at the tip of Katsurahama Beach. Katsurahama is a scenic spot in Kuroshio-cho, Hata-gun, Kochi Prefecture, beloved by Ryoma Sakamoto, with white sandy beaches and beautiful water, and on a clear day the Shikoku Mountains can be seen in the distance. The deity is Ohwatatsumi-no-kami, who has been worshipped since ancient times as a deity to protect boats from travel and to avert natural disasters. It is said that the shrine was founded during the Chosokabe period, but the date is unknown.

After crossing the Ryugu Bridge and climbing the stone steps, you will see a torii gate.

It is rare to find a shrine that has a view of the ocean from a high point, with steps leading up from the side of a rocky outcrop. It was impressive that the worship hall was also arranged as if looking at the shrine.

It is indeed a scenic spot. The view is very wonderful and offers a magnificent view of the Pacific Ocean. It is also a place where you can see the whole view of Katsurahama beach and the morning sunrise very beautifully. I thought it was a place where natural beauty and man-made facilities were blended together.
