【Tokyo St. Mary’s Cathedral summary】
The St. Mary’s Cathedral was designed by architect Kenzo Tange and built in 1964. When the Pope visited Japan in 2019, a mass was held in this church. The funeral of Kenzo Tange, the designer of the building, was also held here.
When viewed from below, it is said to have beautiful curves like a dancing swan, and when viewed from the sky, it is said to be in the shape of a cross. It is completely different from Japanese shrines and looks futuristic. Mr. Tange must have been an amazing person to design this in the 1960s.

Manager’s Comments
I hesitated to enter the cathedral because I am not a Christian, but I was not stopped. Although it is prohibited to take pictures inside the cathedral, it is said to be one of Kenzo Tange’s representative buildings, and has a modern and solemn atmosphere. It is right in front of Chinzan-so, so I thought it would be good to visit once if you are a Christian who stayed at the hotel.
