【Overview of Lupinus Hill】
Located within the Kanuma Kaboku Center in Tochigi Prefecture, “Lupinus Hill” is one of the largest spots for viewing lupines on Japan’s main island, Honshu. In Japanese, the lupine is poetically called “Nobori-fuji” (Ascending Wisteria) because its flowers look like wisteria blossoms growing upside down, reaching toward the sky. They come in a vibrant array of colors—red, pink, blue, purple, yellow, and white—often in soft, beautiful pastel tones.

While admission to the Kanuma Kaboku Center and its parking is free, a separate entry fee is required for the Lupinus Hill area.

Approximately 30,000 lupines blanket the gentle slopes of the hill. Finding such a large cluster of lupines is rare in Honshu, and the sight of your entire field of vision being covered in flowers is truly breathtaking.

The sight of the lupine clusters shooting up toward the blue sky is incredibly powerful, fitting for one of the largest displays in Honshu. Each plant is unique, and if you look closely, the tiny individual blossoms look like clusters of delicate butterflies—absolutely lovely.

Since there aren’t many other major tourist spots in the immediate vicinity, it might feel a bit short for a full-day trip on its own. However, compared to world-famous locations like Ashikaga Flower Park, I found it much easier to relax and enjoy the flowers without the overwhelming crowds.
