Asahi-Inari Shrine [Tokyo]

【Asahi-Inari Shrine summary】

Asahi Inari Shrine (Asahi Inari Shrine) was founded in an unknown year. It is believed that it has been located in the present Ginza area and has been revered since ancient times. According to records, the shrine was buried by a major earthquake in 1855, after which the sacred body was discovered. After the war disaster, the current building was rebuilt in 1983. In recent years, the shrine has attracted attention as the model for the shrine featured in Makoto Shinkai’s animated film “Weathering With You. The deity is Uganomikamigami for Inazuke Shrine.

The worship hall is on the first floor and the main hall is on the rooftop. Be careful not to enter the building mistaking it for the neighboring Ginza Asahi Building on the right. Enter the street on the left from the hall of worship and you will find the entrance to the Daiko Asahi Building.

It doesn’t feel like a shrine, but the torii gate and view on the rooftop of Ginza is unusual. It was a small space but very pleasant under the blue sky.

Manager’s Comments

Since Ginza and the Kabuki-za Theater are also located nearby, why not visit the shrine while sightseeing? I thought the torii gate on the roof of a building in the city is a good spot to simulate the world of a movie. The building is occupied by companies and stores, so please visit the shrine with good manners.
