Kamata Hachiman Shrine [Tokyo]

【Kamata Hachiman Shrine summary】

The exact founding of Kamata Hachiman Shrine (Kamata Hachiman Shrine) was unknown. It is presumed that the sea was close by during the Neolithic Age, and residents settled in this vicinity. It is believed to be the place where primitive beliefs originated along with the Jomon-style culture and served as a place of worship. From these legends and historical facts, it is believed that the shrine has been a place of faith since ancient times, as there was a small circular mound in the precincts of the shrine. It is estimated that the shrine was built in 1600.

The deity is Hachiman-sama, and therefore, Emperor Ojin is enshrined.

The approach to the shrine, the shrine pavilion, and the shrine office are all clean, and the shrine grounds are bright, clean, and open. Despite being in a busy town, the atmosphere is quiet and calm as you enter the shrine from the approach.

Manager’s Comments

It is only a two-minute walk from Keikyu Kamata Station, making it easy to visit the shrine. There is a “Kamata Rokusha Meguri (tour of the six shrines of Kamata),” and there are two shrines that also serve as Kamata Hachiman Shrine at the west exit of JR Kamata Station, and four Hachiman Shrines at the east exit. The atmosphere of the shrines is pleasant, and as the center of festivals and events, they are closely related to the lives of the local people and are well known to them. I also saw a few foreign tourists here and there, probably because it is a transfer station to the airport, but they were just passing through.
