【Tokyo Tower summary】

Tokyo Tower was completed in 1958. When it was first built, it was the world’s tallest freestanding radio tower. Designed by engineers including Naito Tanaka, who also worked on Osaka’s Tsutenkaku Tower, Tokyo Tower was designed to be sturdy enough to withstand the harsh natural environment of Japan. The tower suffered from a major fire in the Edo period, a flood in the Meiji period, the Great Kanto Earthquake in the Taisho period, and an air raid on Tokyo in the Showa period. It was born as a symbol of postwar reconstruction at a time when people’s hearts were sinking due to many disasters in the long history of Japan. I believe that it also represents the idea of looking upward.

The Sky Tree is a new radio tower in Tokyo, which has been in operation because a forest of skyscrapers has made it difficult for radio waves to reach shadowed areas of the city. The current Tokyo Tower serves as a backup tower in the event of a disaster or other event that prevents the Tokyo Skytree from transmitting signals.

The park is located in the area right next to Tokyo Tower. The best time to view the autumn leaves is around December.

Several Jizo statues are enshrined on the slope of the Momiji Valley cliff. A snake figurine is hidden behind the largest Jizo, which is said to be a snake mound. A creek flows through the area, creating a pleasant atmosphere.

Right next to the Tokyo Tower, a small shrine enshrines Nyorin Kannon (Avalokitesvara)

It is a large stone statue of Nyoirin Kannon, and although details are unknown, it is believed to have been built during the Edo period. At that time, this site was the precincts of Zojoji Temple, and it seems to have remained there even after the park was turned into Shiba Park.

It is no exaggeration to say that it is a symbol of prosperity of Tokyo or Japan. As a facility, Tokyo Tower has an observation area, souvenir shops, and other facilities that make it an enjoyable place for sightseeing in Tokyo.
