【Oshinohakkai Summary】

Oshinohakkai is a famous water village with an original Japanese landscape. Oshinohakkai is the name of eight ponds where melted snow from Mt. Fuji gushes out of the ground over a long period of time. Fuji, and each of the eight ponds is registered as a World Heritage Site along with the body of Mt.

In the past, it was a sacred place for people who wanted to climb Mt. Fuji, and each pond is dedicated to a guardian deity, the eight great dragon kings. Legend has it that Wakuike, which boasts the largest volume of spring water, was created by Hanakaiyahime-no-mikoto in response to people’s cries for water when Mt.

Fuji, filtered over a period of 80 years to create the spring water.

【Oshinohakkai premises】

There is a toll area in Oshinohakkai. Fuji observatory, which can be entered for a fee of 300 yen. Near the large pond is the Haunoki Forest Folk Museum, a 200-year-old thatched building said to be the oldest in the area.

The house is an old private house like the old Gassho style, with tatami mats, a wooden floor, and an earthen floor preserved as they were in the old days, and display cases in each room displaying old money and books.

The second and third floors can be accessed, and the second floor has the atmosphere of an old silkworm farm, while the third floor has a vaulted ceiling. You can enjoy the atmosphere of returning to your grandmother’s house in the countryside.

There is a bottomless pond at the back of the museum, where rainbow trout swimming in the clear water look as if they are flying in the air.

There seem to be pros and cons to paying a fee, but the paid section was a place where even I, who do not like crowds, could be satisfied without the hustle and bustle of the outside world crowded with tourists.

The pond looks very clear and blue under a blue sky. In good weather, Mt. Fuji can be seen in the distance.

This is a wonderful spot where water from Mt. Fuji. The clarity of the water is just amazing. Just looking at the beautiful blue surface of the water and the fish swimming in it is relaxing. It is one of the essential spots for sightseeing in Yamanashi.
