Vert Café is a retro café full of Taisho Roman charm, featuring an eye-catching mint-green Western-style building located in Suijo Park. The structure is the relocated and restored “Former Oshi Town Credit Union Building,” built in 1922 (Taisho 11) and designated as a Cultural Property by Gyoda City. Utilizing a building originally founded as a bank by local tabi (traditional Japanese socks) merchants, visitors can enjoy an antique, nostalgic atmosphere.

【Vert Café Business Hours】

Since “Vert” means “green” in French, the café’s signature item is reportedly the “Vert Soft-Serve,” made with specially selected matcha.

【Vert Café 1F】

Because the building was formerly a credit union (bank), the 1st floor preserves original elements such as the framework of the bank counter and an old safe. Since you pay at the register immediately upon entering, checking the menu in advance makes for a smooth experience.

Unusually for a café, shoes are strictly prohibited inside. Visitors take off their shoes at the entrance and put on slippers selected from the shelf before stepping inside.

【Vert Café 2F】

The main seating area is located on the 2nd floor. Furnished with antique wooden tables and chairs, the space is illuminated by retro, dazzling light fixtures suspended from above.

From the large windows on the 2nd floor, visitors can look down upon Shinobu Pond in Suijo Park and the lush greenery spreading out right before their eyes. Time flows at a relaxing pace, making you feel as though you were at a lakeside villa.

On this visit, I ordered the “Junjou Neapolitan” (Pure Heart Neapolitan), a staple menu item of classic Japanese coffee shops (kissaten). With slightly thick noodles coated in a rich ketchup sauce, it offers a beloved, classic taste that everyone adores. For desserts and drinks, options like “Haikara Pudding” and cream sodas allow guests to fully enjoy the retro ambiance.
