【Overview of Tobu World Square】

Tobu World Square officially opened its gates on April 24, 1993 (Heisei 5). Built to commemorate the 95th anniversary of Tobu Railway, this theme park took 5 years to complete with a total construction cost of 14 billion yen. It showcases world-famous architectural masterpieces and historic ruins, all painstakingly reproduced on a precise 1/25 scale.

The park features 102 structures from 21 countries, including 47 registered UNESCO World Heritage sites, all recreated with ultra-high precision. Populating the spaces around these buildings are tiny individual figurines—each boasting completely unique clothing and facial expressions.

The general admission ticket at the gate is 2,800 yen for adults and 1,400 yen for children.

【Modern Japan Zone】

This zone features a striking lineup including the 26-meter-tall Tokyo Skytree, Tokyo Tower, and the National Diet Building.

If you take a very close look at the center, there is a figurine that looks remarkably like Prime Minister Takaichi!

Tokyo Station is bustling with quite a heavy crowd.

Here is the Tokyo National Museum in Ueno. Although the actual, real-life entrance gates have recently been modernized, the level of reproduction here is incredibly high.

【America Zone】

The streets of New York City are beautifully brought to life, and the presentation of the former World Trade Center is absolutely breathtaking.

I wonder if that is Mr. Trump standing in front of the White House.

【Egypt Zone】

Featuring the Pyramids and the Sphinx, this area delivers an immersive atmosphere that makes you feel as though you are standing in a real desert.

【Europe Zone】

A veritable treasure trove of World Heritage sites, showcasing wonders like the Parthenon and Neuschwanstein Castle.

Germany’s Neuschwanstein Castle was, of course, the famous model for the Cinderella Castle.

The Sagrada Família is the legendary church masterminded by the genius Spanish architect Antoni Gaudí. It looks like it might actually wrap up construction sooner than Shinjuku Station.

St. Peter’s Basilica is located in Vatican City. I would love to go there for a real sightseeing trip someday.

The Parthenon sits atop the hill of the Acropolis in Athens, Greece. The Europe Zone offers immense visual variety with its diverse architectural styles and unique personalities, making it incredibly rewarding to look at.

【Asia Zone】

 Here, you can gaze upon the grand Great Wall of China, the Taj Mahal, and Taipei 101 from Taiwan.

Wat Arun stands proudly as one of the most iconic and representative temples in Bangkok, the capital of Thailand.

The Great Wall of China is a colossal defensive wall originally built by Qin Shi Huang—the first emperor to unify China—to prevent invasions from northern nomadic tribes. Approximately 2,300 years ago, it took over 10 years and the labor of 300,000 people to construct. Spanning a length of about 2,400 kilometers, its distance is roughly equivalent to traveling all the way from Hokkaido to Okinawa in Japan.

【Japan Zone】

Historic architectural treasures from Kyoto and Nara, such as Kiyomizu-dera and Kinkaku-ji (the Golden Pavilion), are beautifully and elegantly reproduced.

The trees and greenery integrated throughout the park utilize genuine bonsai and real live plants, causing the surrounding scenery to shift naturally with each passing season.

This is Itsukushima Shrine in Hiroshima Prefecture. To capture an authentic, weathered antique look, the Great Torii Gate at Tobu World Square reportedly utilizes a traditional technique known as “Yogoshi” (weathering/distressing), where three layers of lacquer are carefully applied and then systematically scraped back.

Admin’s Impressions

Tobu World Square was an incredibly unique destination where the world’s greatest landmarks are laid out side-by-side on a 1/25 scale. That being said, while it is bound to completely captivate anyone who loves slow, meticulous observations of fine details, it might feel a bit stationary or subdued for travelers who prefer to stay highly active and dynamic. Because of this, I highly recommend pairing it with a drastically different type of attraction—such as “Edo Wonderland (Nikko Edomura),” which offers strong interactive experiences and entertainment. Mixing these contrasting flavors will add an excellent rhythm to your itinerary and greatly boost your overall trip satisfaction.
